Worship Leaders Give Back - CompassionArt

It's not often that we get to feel like we are really doing something for the larger community - the community of humanity. As worship leaders, often our focus is simply on the church. Sure, we look beyond the walls, and try to bring people in, as we should. But this helps the individual and the church. We can do more.

Many well-known worship leaders have their own causes that are special to them. Audio Adreneline is still deeply involved in the Hands & Feet Project. Steven Curtis Chapman and Shaohannah's Hope, Casting Crowns and World Vision and many more all do amazing work.

CompassionArt is a little different. In January, some of the world's most well-known worship leaders got together for a retreat in Scotland, folks like Michael W. Smith, Paul Baloche, Israel Houghton, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Steven Curtis Chapman... the list is too long to go on. During that time, worship leaders did what we do - made some music. They decided to make a CD, got some more worship leaders, guys like Joel Houston, tobyMac, Kirk Franklin, Leeland Mooring and more, and recorded a record in the storied Abbey Road Studios.

What's really cool about this CD is that everyone involved - the artists, producers, managers, publishers and licensers - have waived their copyright and royalty rights. No one makes any money off this deal. The money raised gets split between several select charities and the artists' own pet causes. Buy a CD, you're helping. Sing one of the songs at a Sunday Service and report it to CCLI, and you're helping. Buy a songbook, and you're helping. The CD is currently available in Europe, and is available for pre-orders in the U.S., with a release date of January 27.

Check out the website for details on the charities involved and the artists contributing, or watch the video below. There is a free track for downloading, that comes with poster art and sheet music. Thanks to Stephen Brewster from Integrity for turning me onto this.
